Dave developed carpentry skills at a young age, first by helping his Dad tune and service pipe organs for the family business. By age 12, he was making wooden ornaments and toys for Christmas, items that now decorate the Muller house during the holidays. During his senior year of high school, Dave began working on new construction in the Toledo area, where he first learned how to install and trim doors and windows.
Dave married wife Sue in 1983, and the couple moved to Colorado Springs to follow the booming construction industry. Helping build Wendy’s restaurants and doing finish carpentry in commercial buildings and new houses were Dave’s main jobs. In the midst of these projects, he also designed, built, and finished his own house in the small town of Monument.
After their adventure out West, the Mullers moved back to Toledo in 1987, and Dave continued in new construction but also began remodeling. He worked for a fire, wind, and water damage restoration company while simultaneously completing projects for other homeowners by himself. Thanks to referrals from satisfied customers, Dave was able to keep busy with his own work and left the restoration company. Once completely self-employed, he mostly remodeled basements, bathrooms, and kitchens, often with custom-built cabinetry and display units.
Besides completing contracted jobs, Dave has also worked on volunteer construction projects. He did the finish work for the original Mom’s House in Toledo, including hanging doors and casing. Dave has assisted Habitat for Humanity and helped build several playgrounds.
Beginning in the summer of 2003, Dave undertook his biggest remodeling project to date: putting a second story on his own single-level house. With a little help from family and friends, the 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom bungalow was transformed into a 3-bedroom, 2-and-a-half-bathroom house that showcases Dave’s multitude of carpentry skills. He most enjoyed designing and building the staircase and kitchen cabinets for the addition because they let both his creativity and skill shine through.
Dave currently uses his abilities to beautify homes in the Toledo area. On weekends, you’ll find him busy in his workshop, drawing up kitchens or building cabinets. Dave approaches each job with a focused but open mind. He uses his many years of experience to help homeowners’ design dreams become reality.
